Buhbye Singapore :(

I hate packing.
I hate worrying about going overweight (literally too). The thought of having to lug those heavy luggages and backpacks and barangs just totally ruins my mood. And on top of that, I dont have someone waiting for me when Im in London (unlike lovely singapore) plus cab fares can actually kill, so I have to lug them onto the tube and through the crowds.

I find it interesting (actually, appalling) how London is like one of the major cities in the world, yet most of its tube stations dont have escalators and lifts. Cant they spare a thought for not only the millions of visitors and tourists who have to lug their bloody heavy bags up and down those 1000 steps but also, for the disabled who practically cant take tubes cos of this?

And I hate packing cos it always means leaving :(
Finally, packing means that there is going to be a point of time when you have to ...
UNPACK. damnit.

Happy Birthday Stef :D

Stef in pink, blowing out the candles as Whisper (the horror) looks on.

Me crowning the Pink Princess of the Day.

Happy Birthday Stef!

Im not sure if Stef enjoyed her Pink Themed Surprise Bday Party as much as the rest of us 'cos:
1. Being Stef, she obviously hates surprises. And being the centre of attention.
2. The theme was pink, so everyone came in pink. (Even her! Though she didnt mean to dress for the occasion.) Except for Ang and her Dad.
3. It was a 32nd gathering in disguise.

But it was good fun and Im glad everyone enjoyed the food. At least, my efforts didnt go to waste! :D

Happy Birthday to my 2 best friends in council- Mon and Stef!
You guys are now old like me. Hehehe.

Its almost time to return :(

Today marks the end of my wakeboarding lessons, and the start of preparing myself for school. Its mixed feelings really. 2 years on, and I still get damn teary everytime Im at the airport. Im gonna miss my brother, my family, my friends (esp the sad ones, you guys know who you are) and being a brat (Sorry, Im superficial- Having a big room is great.). And of course, the sun. I know Im such an angmoh for saying this, but I love the heat in Singapore. I dont mind the sweat, and the potential headaches that it brings Cos i think it beats depressing winter (which is cold and dark. Short days suck.).

This summer has been great, way too awesome actually. And for once, I have led a life which involves waking up with nothing to do, no plans and no worries. Its a great change really, something I wish could go on for abit more. But I suppose we only really appreciate boredom when we know that we are going to be busy soon. Its probably painful if we know it would be indefinite.
Whilst I know people like Stef give me The Look when I dont know how to answer them when I say I dont know what I have been up to the whole summer, Im still glad I spent it the way I did. I like being at home when my brother's around, even though we dont talk that much (blame prelims). Im glad I got to see Hing and Jr loads when the drunkard from down there was back. Im glad I met the Losers at least once every week. Im glad I got to see the councillors, catch up with people like Mon, attend a class outing, see Ah Gake and Cher, visit HC, chill with the Tripod peeps and the list continues.

I havent climbed a mountain, volunteer at Zimbabwe, done a meaningful attachment somewhere here or somewhere exotic, or even travel anywhere (yes, I didnt even go Msia). But still, I think Im giving myself a pat on the back for enjoying boredom like this so thoroughly.
My only gripe being the freaking 3kg I gained. URGH.

Congrats to Morrison and Choon Hong!

Recently, I lost the motivation to blog because I just re-found this really old game that I was once (and now am again) addicted to called Theme Hospital. Its a little like Roller Coaster Tycoon, just that you assume the role of Cuddy (without having to deal with rascals like House, though personally I would love to ... just 'cos he is hot) and see patients with bloaty heads and invisibility and too much hair. And considering I played this game when I was about 10 years old, Im amazed that 1 decade later I still find it entertaining.

Yesterday I attended the 2nd wedding of my life. And i believe this marks the start of a string, and a not very subtle hint that I am growing very old. I suppose one of the good things about spending CNY in London is that I dont have to endure relatives probing into my love life.

Morrison and Choon Hong's wedding yesterday was absolutely beautiful. Their love story's seemingly common but yet cute and sweet- their first meeting was at a KTV through M's best friend/ best man.
Tears of joy and gratitude were shed as both the couple and their best man/ maid of honour shared their feelings about the union and each other. The wedding was simple, no funny or embarrassing games, no lavish decor and nothing out of the ordinary- but I liked it that way. There was no pretentiousness, just very down- to- earth and personal- just like how I know M. M's one of those dudes whom I know who can charm waitresses around the world to give him an extra serving of rice on the house, make people whom he has known for but 5mins feel absolutely comfortable, and someone you would call about 1 day before exams because you know that he seems to have this superpower to make anyone feel better. And so if Choon Hong is fortunate to have Morrison, he's even luckier to get her. She's beautiful, graceful and very very smart. She's like one of those people with an air of elegance whom you would notice in a crowd even if she's not talking. And yesterday, she was more beautiful than ever. She looked absolutely stunning in all 3 gowns, though my personal fave was definitely the cheongsum, that was complete with a train. She makes me want to have a cheongsum for my wedding too ... that's of course when I find my significant other first.

So, here's to Morrison and Choon Hong!
May they be blessed with loads of beautiful offsprings, we all would love to have kids to play with in London!

Meeting 6L.

Primary school gathering yesterday was an awkward affair. At least for me it was. For one, me and Lily were straddling loser outing together with meeting our old friends whom we havent seen for like forever and ever. It was real odd cos we were drifting in and out of the group, and actually barely talking to any of the 6L people. Most people havent changed, but i have to admit i forgot most of them (names and faces... oops). But as my teacher (who turned up too) said, I was one of those that blended it cos I was a good kid, so I actually didnt mingle much with most people. Now no one can imagine me being a good kid eh? But i was def one of those who melted into the chair and I have this suspicion that if we didnt have fixed seatings or register numbers, no one would notice that I was gone from the class.
But still it was nice meeting my old teachers and seeing them :)

Parkway definitely brings back loads of wonderful memories for me. It still remains one of my fave shopping centres till today. They have an awesome food court, and prices of the things here are not yet jacked up to obscene figures. Shopping here is relatively decent and its never too empty, and yet never to insanely crowded. And for me, because I practically grew up here (from bday celebrations to tuition classes, I was in Parkway if I wasnt at school), I like the way it has a refreshing new look but hasnt changed so much such that I cant recognise it anymore.

Korean Food's good too.

Ive been out too much lately, so much so that my mum's started controlling my spending :(

Was out till past midnight (mainly cos i waited for the bus for super damn long) with Erns and Dj yesterday. Had Korean, B&J's and chilled at Angel's Bar. Dempsey's really an awesome place to relax with friends, its almost impossible to find anything bad in there. Only got back past midnight cos i waited for more than 40mins for each bus. Hence decided to be a good kid and come back early today.

Volunteered for this CIP thing that Stef organised. It was amazing race style (again), and since the goal was to raise awareness for people with Myscular Dystrophy, we all had to take wheelchair friendly routes. I never felt myself so lucky to be able to take escalators and cross roads without having to think twice. It was still good fun, although the group of us didnt stop complaining about having to walk in the sun.

After the race, I finally picked up the pair of heels I reserved at Charles and Keith, even though I did like it less than when I first saw it.
Mon then brought me to this Korean place at Le Meridien's obscure food court. I think it was pretty good standard korean stuff with absolutely no frills and at an affordable price. Im def going back there to try their soba fish!

Lebanese food's Awesome!

For some strange reason, my blogger page has been looking really odd and screwed up. I cant find my post pictures and insert html buttons anymore :(

Went to Kazbar Restaurant for a Lebanese Dinner and it was awesome. It was one of those small quaint pub- restuarants lining the road between Cuppage Plaza and Centrepoint. It wasnt too crowded, so def a nice place to chill with friends. The interior was done with some psuedo- authentic middle eastern decor. The waiter who served us was attentive and friendly, and nice enough to allow us to a cute little booth complete with drapery, even though it was just a small crowd of 3.
And come 9pm, there came a belly dancer (we eventually learnt that she's actually pure jap) who gyrated really vigorously at each table. Interesting way of drawing customers in.

Erns and I chose the place for its ambience (its nice and dark enough for hanky panky, if you are thinking of somewhere to bring your other half), but the food was def the highlight. It wasnt what one would call cheap but the portions were relatively generous.

We had humous platter for starters, and it was good- the pita was soft and nice to chew on, and the humous was smooth, yummy and not too salty. The platter came with some special potato pastry thing (abit like the fried Malay Potato balls, just more ... crispy and exquisite) and cheese spring rolls, both which were delightful.

Our 2 main dishes were Chicken kebabs and shish with cous cous & Dory fillet with brown rice. Both were enjoyable, and tasted quite like the real deal to me. Surprisingly, i liked the cous cous (which i normally avoid), even though I did prefer the fish dish. Its brown rice tasted a little like the yam rice that normally comes with duck rice, just better cos its more fragrant (and healthier!). The dory was gratifying, tender and quite fresh (no fishy smell!). Plus i loved the sauce that came with it.

Erns and Dj both had blueberry mojito as well, and i have to say it was pretty good. Better than the lime thingy I had at Howl at the Moon. But no one really goes to Howl for good drinks right- everyone's there are the awesome atmosphere, wacky jokes, great band ... and of course free champagne on ladies night hehehe.

PS Cafe.

It seemed that putting on the 2kg isn’t surpressing my appetite one bit. In fact, if anything, Im like craving even more random stuff.

Upon many many people’s recommendation, I finally had a go at PS Café. I visited the one at Paragon instead of the much raved about one at Dempsey. But personally I felt it was overrated. I mean, it was (relatively) good food and the atmosphere was cool stuff. The cafe got this back to 60s feel and loads of entertaining magazines to keep you occupied. And it wasn’t crowded during lunch time, which was a great plus.
But I don’t think the food deserves the price tag one bit, and it wasn’t… like oomph satisfying. I had the mushroom soup and a ham and brie sandwich. The mushroom soup was delicious, thick with fresh mushroom bits. I also like the way they added my favourite salad leaves- rockets into it. The serving’s not large, so you can either see it as not value for money or that it gives your enough stomach space (or less calorie intake) to go on to the next part of the meal.
The sandwich was good, for Singapore standards but I think it is possible to get bread of such standards at a better price elsewhere. The Brie was yummy though and I like the apple chuntney sauce that they added into it. The sandwich came with cold smoked ham, which was a pity cos I personally prefer them cooked and … stronger tasting.

Accompanied my mum to Spagaddies after that, and I don’t think Im ever going back there again. Felt like Ive wasted my calorie intake.

Okay, time to stop talking about food. I can imagine Ern’s face now.

Redo Half Blood Prince please!

For a very very long time, I didnt know that I have been insulting myself. I was trying to type my username to log into gmail and I accidentally googled Peish. Only to find out that people only get called Peish when they are arses. And all this time, Ive been happily responding when people are referring to me as the male organ or female dog.

Yesterday was a good day (:
After sending Hing off, I had pancakes from Rider's Cafe in the Saddle Club which actually did serve quite awesome pancakes that came with maple syrup and Mulberry compote. Plus given my appetite, even I found the portion generous. The omelette was apparently pretty good too.
Plus you get to see handsome horses trotting outside and even though its not air- conditioned, the place was cooling and an awesome place to just chill for a good breakfast with your family or friends.

Met the losers for ice skating after that. I spent most of the time getting dragged around by Erns and Lily. Erns goes abit too quickly for my liking. It didnt help that the ring was too slippery and too crowded. But i did manage to walk 2 rounds without clutching on to someone for my dear life. Spent most of the time watching old ah peks trying (a bit too hard) to be graceful, which was both painful and hilarious.
So after flushing the 20bucks down the drain (considering i really didnt skate at all), we headed to do my fave activity- EAT DINNER! ((: And I managed to have a go on Lily's Wii, where I found my love for Wii Boxing. Its good fun, a stress reliever and So this is a not so subtle hint to anyone who has wii boxing to please invite me to your place.

And finally .... it was HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. Erns offered me free tickets to the show 'cos some of her friend's friends couldnt make it. I love erns and her flow of free tickets. Her friends were awesome too, real friendly and chatty, saving me from those painful awkward silences.
The movie was good, for a movie. But possibly very disappointing for HP fans. Most of the dramatic scenes in the book was cut, and some details were changed. So it would be very good if you didnt revise the book before the show. Lavender was downright annoying, I hate her bimbo-ness and baby talk and stickyness to Ron. I mean like ...get a backbone man, dont put the female gender to shame. Daniel Radcliffe somehow managed to clean himself up for the movie, Emma didnt look too sophisticated and hot (which means she does represent hermione granger more) and erms Ron, i think he is getting abit too well- built. The movie was too short, I wished they added more scenes into it (and cut out all the unnecessary lavender ones) and could have been alot of more dramatic and action- packed. But it still makes it to the must- watch list. Afterall, how can any Harry Potter (no matter how bad) film be missed eh? (:

Wakeboarding Withdrawals.

Wakeboarding lessons finally ended yesterday, and it ended on a great big bang for me :D I still vaguely remember dreading the last lesson, cos I was just too tired from SnR outing the night before.
But now, I missing it so much. Im going to miss like laughing with those 2 dudes, feeling the adrenline rush each time I learn smthing new, the seabreeze and spray of water in my face, the sun (even though I apply a generous amt of sunscreem on myself) and the pigging out with the boys after each session.
I was complaining about seeing too much of their faces but i think im going to miss laughing at, i mean with, them now. Esp Hing who is going to disappear down there.
Seriously, if not for these lessons, i think that the first month of my hol basically passed with nothing special going on.

So here's jr's graduating video. The 2nd one's funny. Im too lazy to recount it but it is me and Hing discussing how wakeboarding can potentially be a great 把妹 tool. Isnt that what all guys think about all the time anyway? Hahaha.

And yes, the tripod outing with Hing finally worked out last night. And more people turned out than expected. It was great fun, though May obviously looked completely zonked out from school. I think hell like that is going to start for me real soon.
Some of us headed down to Howl to the Moon (a piano bar) after that, and it was great fun! I mean like you have to be able to take loads of dirty jokes and remarks at all your baby- making organs. But all in all, it was a great place to hang out, cos the people there are really talented and entertaining. It was like top class entertainment, in fact I personally prefer it to the only other music place in Singapore that I have fone to, Timbre. And maybe cos we were there on a thurs night, its wasnt crowded-- meaning that conversation was actually possible.

Okay, Yearmates outing tonight and then Losers outing on Sat.
How come I am having so much fun? Expensive fun though :(

Wakeboarding Graduation

Okay, today's wakeboarding session was like awesomely endorphine boosting. Like i knew that even though still cant edge out for more than 45degree and my posture aint that good and that Hing basically still owns me, but being able to do the stuff that I wasnt able to last time made me feel pleased with myself. All in all, it was a great 1 month spent in Singapore. 1 more month to go and now Im racking my brains to find something relatively meaningful to do.

And as usual, I went to pig out with the gents after lesson. And this is perfectly the reason why I AM PUTTING ON WEIGHT WHILST WAKEBOARDING TWICE A WEEK. But today's calorie intake was like TOTALLY WORTH IT. Finally, I have been to The roti prata place at Upper Thomson and it was so orgasmically good. Like it is soft and yet crispy, sinfully satisfying and yet not too oily. The egg in the prata was also not too dry and overcooked, and when it goes with both sugar and curry, i felt like i have momentarily forgotten all my woes and that Im definitely the most blissful person in the world. Okay, i might just be exaggerating a tad bit, but I have been craving good prata for that long a time.

Okay, going to meet the tripod people now. I havent met some of them for so long I might have forgotten their faces.
And i realised secondary to friends, the thing i talk about most is ... food. At least food isnt ranked first right. Hahaha.

I wish.

Today is one of those days whereby i feel supremely inadequate, and wished that I was better in like 1000 other ways. Actually, I wish that I am not me.

For one i wish that I could actually write like this or actually being able to write as smoothly as Boobie would be good enough.
I also wish that I had a smaller face and that I have a hot bod like Maggie Q, or maybe actually losing 10kg would be good enough.
I wish I was beautiful. Okay, I shant be greedy- I just wish Im prettier.
I wish that I was smarter, more confident and a better medic, like not forgetting everything now that exams are over.
I wish I could dance, I wish I could sing awesomely well, I wish I could knew tennis, I wish I could play the piano or some cool instrument. I wish I was better at sports and music.
I wish I was really good at something.
I wish I could connect well with everyone, and make friends really easily.

Well yeah, I wish man.

Back to HC.

Had wakeboarding lesson again today, but it didnt go too well for me. Couldnt do the 180turn which i could the last time :( Which is depressing. Hopefully i can master it in the last lesson on thursday!

Went down to HC to return Mr Rem his stuff, and met up with Mr Sam Lee as well. Its a pity most of the teachers that used to have us like Ms June Tan and Mrs Ang and Mrs Mag Tan are gone. HC looks really different now, from new canteen stores to new class bench layouts to new teachers. Its barely 4 years since Ive left and I cant believe how much has changed! But going back does make me really nostalgic. I wish I met friends and teachers like that in uni, but who knows what lies ahead for me in the new year eh? :) Hopefully i can find new friends that i can truly connect with like in RG and HC.

Okay, time for bed. Feeling kinda tired from today's lesson.
I think im going to miss wakeboarding after the course ends. Im actually thinking of continuing when Hing's gone. Should I? Its another 300bucks :x

Burnt.

Class outing yesterday was great, even the teachers were impressed with how many people turned up for it ((:

It was my first time to Marina Barrage, which is like the new up and coming family place in the day and couples dating at night. It has this really pretty elevated platform with well kept neat cowgrass all over. There are enough people there to make it not look secluded but also, not too many people there to make it crowded and intolerable. My only complaint being that there should be more of a shade built over the grass patches cos I felt I was getting roasted in the singapore afternoon sun. I have this really hideous spag strap tan now.

7d's doing awesomely well. Most of the guys (excl jr, chinswee, hing and kep) are going to engineering of some sorts- chemical, material, general. Everyone else seems to be enjoying uni life as well, and looking better than ever. Everyone's older, but more fun and hyper. Its pretty ironic how our class never really met up last time, but we are just doing that now. Funny how things change with time. And im glad its for the better this time.

Met up with Kaix for dinner, and good gawd, i havent seen her for like forever and ever. Miss her so much. She's looking awesome and sounds like she is doing well.
Im sad she's going back so soon though :( I hate the way all the aussie kids are just like living in a world of their own. Holidays and seasons different from the rest of the world.

Next week up is going to exciting. Wakeboarding, meeting up with May, Yearmates outing, Losers outing and Lucy's (my friend from london!) is coming to town. I love holidays!

Yeah 我是 superman!

Today's wakeboarding session was awesome! (((:
Managed to learn how to board in and out of the wake on both sides (Something my instructor calls marching, cos its like going Left, Right, Left, Right.) and also do the 180 degree turn (though im still not very good at it.) And im actually not aching today! Which has never happened after a lesson before. Signs that im getting stronger and my posture is more correct.
Plus cos jr couldnt make it today, so it also meant that me and hing got more time than we asked for. 赚到了!

But the bad thing is that, im starting to notice that my arms are getting a bit too HUGE. Like my back muscles are building up, which is just plain ugly. I know jeffrey and jr would prbly like work-outs like this, but this is definitely deterring me from wanting to do this long term :( And i think i actually put on weight cos i tend to like binge with the guys after each session. Which totally cancels out all the calorie burns.
Maybe im going to take up yoga after this to tone myself up, and get rid of all the unsightly muscles. Now i understand why The Hulk hunches, cos the muscles at the back actually gets in the way!

I recently got addicted to this taiwanese drama called Hot Shot 篮球火. (Just when I said Ive given up hope on tw dramas.) Starring Jerry Yen, Show Luo and Wu Zun ... and some other female newbies. Its like a cross breed between Slam Dunk and MVP 情人, and Show Luo really played his character well in the show. Its funny and not too lovey dovey, plus its one of those typical sports drama where some underdog team goes on to win (i hope, i havent finished it yet).

And I find the 主题曲 very cute:

Too much sun :(

Wakeboarding every other day is getting a little ... too hardcore for me. Thankfully, the trial yoga session yesterday helped ease the pain.

Today is one of those days whereby a small thing makes the whole day suck :(
Havent had such a sucky day since I came back. Maybe working out later would help release the happy hormones. I hope so.

Enjoying Life.

Met some of the losers and ern's intern friends for KTV yesterday and it was good fun.
Totally love jumping up and down on the sofa for One Night in Beijing and going completely wild. I love girls' night out like this where we all get to go really crazy and just let my hair down. This holiday has been awesome, Ive gotten to catch up with friends, go crazy and do the things that Ive been missing so much when I was away.

There are days when I just degenerate at home, watch one bad show after another, or youtube crap, blog and FB. Then there are the days when I go wakeboarding and enjoy the sun or swim- things that I def wont get a chance to do when Im back in London. Or else, it just chilling with friends that I havent hung out for ages and ages- sec sch friends, jc friends, random other friends that Ive met from here and there.

I havent had such a useless awesome life for ages. Like having nothing to rush for, and allowing time to just slip from my fingers. The feeling is awesome if not, surreal :)

And i love this:

NDP 2009 Rehearsal

I just refound (not that it really went away in the first place) my love for singapore after yesterday's NDP rehearsals on the floating platform! It was a good NDP show, albeit short.

They started off the show by trying to trick the audience into thinking that the show was cancelled due to "technical difficulties", and obviously no one believed. Everyone just sat around minding their own business as the large screen flashed stuff like "Really, you have to go now." And it reminded me of sec sch msn conversations, 'cos they actually spelt sorry like sorrriieeeeee. I never really spelt like this, but it did make me kinda nostalgic. I really do miss having a class, like back in rg and hc.
(And on a side note, the computer that they are using for the show is prbly a Mac heheh.)

After which, the hosts came out to ra-ra the crowd. But since it was just a rehearsal, some of them were kinda reading from the script and stuff, so it wasnt that good. They tried to get the crowd to learn how to drum some beats, but even the demonstrators in front of us were banging out of synch, so it wasnt really working that well.
Vanetta Lopez was undoubtedly the best host around. And gurmit singh has buffed up ... like seriously, why are all guys getting bigger and bigger nowadays? Mark Lee was usual ah beng lame self, epitome of singlish, and lead joker.

They had a fake bomb threat at Marina (smthing), right where we were sitting. And it was corny, but fun in a way since after that all the cool civil defence people starting storming in. But i was just thinking what if actually on the day itself, there was really a bomb threat? People would just so sit there and think its fake and clap and cheer their lives away.

After that, it was THE PARADE. Undoubtedly my fave part of the night (: I mean thats what NDP is all about to me (other than singing songs at the top of my lungs). I love watching the Guard of Honour execute those sleek marching (no mean feat!), and the way they are so in line and so smart. I love hearing the beats that they march to, the tune that doesnt seemed to have changed after so many years, and laughing at how crooked the lines for all the other uniform groups are compared to the real pro people.

Our NDP song this year by homegrown ELECTRICO: What Do You See?
I love it, though i cant quite sing it. Love the groove of it.

And this year Chen Wei Lian is going to sing Stef Sun's We Will Get there :(
Isnt she supposed to be in singapore having her concert?! Booooo. Plus i wished there were more sing alongs.

But all in all, it was a good NDP. The stage was beautiful, I like the coolness of the SAF, the songs are not bad, and the goodie bag this year is quite impressive and of decent quality. And the fireworks are pretty (and apparently the ones we see are only 30% of the real day's!)

Im looking forward to Singapore's Bday (((:

Nothing to Hide.

If only, they actually serve us with uniform like this. I would be happy to pledge allegiance to NZ ;)

Finally, after much talking and planning and not doing anything about it, I finally got my butt down to wakeboarding yesterday. So now Im burnt with odd tan lines, red like a lobster (though Hing def fare worse), aching all over (like i didnt know that your gluteal/ butt muscles can actually ache) but happy as a lark. It was really good fun and the crowd that I went with was perfect. Enough lame people to keep me entertained, enough good friends to make me feel blessed and glad that Im back in Singapore doing stuff like this, and enough guys to keep wanting to go again and again on the board cos Im so weak/ unfit that after 20mins or so (though it feels like 1hr to me) Im completely shagged. Plus it totally helped that yuhning was even more unfit than me, which kinda helped keep my ego intact. (But i love you still babe.)

Im going for an NDP rehearsal today at the Marina floating platform! Looking forward to it.
And then there's Loser's outing again, which Im pretty sure would be good fun.
Sharan's place on monday (if i dont feel too lazy).
Who says being jobless aint a good thing?

New Haircut!

Its never Peish if I dont rant about food.
If you are ever in Bugis Junction, you gotta check out Pizzakun which is located in the basement in front of Four Leaves. They sell Japanese Rice Pizza (ie. base is not flour but rice), which come in flavours like unagi, Hawaiian, vege, octopus and stuff. Its quite good really, and pretty to look at.

These couple of days have been good fun for me, despite the fact that I am still jobless and planless.

I finally got a haircut today, after complaining about my bush of a hair to every single living being I see. I kinda got myself some fringe (not bangs though, not as daring as Rae to go to that extent) and straightened the rest of my mane. The final product makes me look about 5 years younger than I actually am (and I already look very much younger/ kiddier than my peers, at least those in London.). But oh well, as i told my hairdresser, hair will grow back eventually.

And i finally managed to get my Mac fixed. Apparently the Ram which the shop upgraded for me was faulty which was why it made this huge beeping sound when I try to turn it on. At least, i have just learnt how to replace my own ram on my own.
Btw, does anyone know if i should get the apple care for about 400 SGD to extent my warranty for another 2 years?

Managed a relatively successful Kinder Bueno milkshake for chinswee and hing yesterday. Either that or they were just trying to please us. Im pretty glad they didnt have to witness the process which me and sharan went through to get it out. But still it was good fun.
Gonna miss those aussie goons loads when they go back. I wish the whole world had winters and summers together at the same time.

Milkshake recipe someone?

I need someone to give me a better recipe to milkshakes other than the usual loads of vanilla ice cream, a little milk and chocolate of your choice and blend it together. I set out with great plans to recreate the awesome Moo Moo Kinder Bueno's but Ive gone through numerous trial and errors today and failed every single time. My brother's saying that it tastes like melted choc chip ice cream, and my mum told me to serve all my visiting friends root beer float to finish up the whole load of ice cream i bought instead of torturing them with my attempts. My maid just cant stop laughing at me :(
And im so sick of seeing all those ice cream, milk and kinder bueno.

Gonna meet up with some of my jc classmates tmr. Having not seen them for eons (in fact some more than 2 years), its nice to see that we have all changed and yet, it doesnt feel like it. Contradictory, but such is life isnt it?

Transformers!

Finally managed to catch Transformers at Bugis with Dj and Erns today (: Love it.
I know people are going to laugh at me for getting all hyped up about seeing vehicles transform into robots who then fight each other in a seemingly plotless show, but to me its all about reliving my childhood! Bee is hotttttt ((((((((: And Megan Fox was just drop dead gorgeous. Totally can see why the cinema was so packed, hot babe and cool machines, hard to resist really.

Got my Sims 2 from Prisc today, hope its fun. Didnt want to spend so much money on Sims 3 and not like it, so decided to get the older version first.

And thanks Erns for all the Pocky!

To MJ, King of Pop.

This is shocking: The King of Pop Michael Jackson has passed away.
Just when we all thought that he was going to make a great comeback with his awesome lineup of plans and concerts and what not.

And so we have lost the greatest legend of our time.

Being a bum's such a luxury.

Met up with Mon and Stef yesterday at Waraku. Was good seeing them again (: We just basically sat there and talked for like ages, about ... omg law and med. Mon injured her hand in a fall and now she has this cool black hip hop guard thing around her wrist that she is complaining about. Hope she recovers soon, cos it can be such a hassle to have one less hand to work with.

Im still deciding if I want to go Msia with Stef to visit her Gran. She's tempting me with all the food, plus I think i havent stepped into Malaysia for at least like 5 years (not since sec 3 bio trip) cos my parents have been completely paranoid about getting robbed on the way there.

Tripod camp's supposed to start today but has been cancelled cos of H1N1. My mum's paranoid about it as well, and she is reluctant to let me travel. To be honest, Im quite amused by the big hoo- hah it has caused in Singapore, considering more people in UK die from the winter flu than this. So i guess Im just going to laze about more, and pretend to sound busy when I dont feel like going out.

Ern and Hing are back, yay! ((:
Meeting up with 7d people this Sat and the Losers on Sunday.
Hopefully ernie without the handphone will contact me soon. Your food is going to rot soon!

I love being a bum.
Its such a luxury.

Angels and Demons

Finally watched Angels and Demons with Boobie yesterday, and it was good, despite the fact that there arent any eye candies (save for the bad pope).

I finally got bored of Criminal Minds and Ive decided to give it up halfway, and Bones just doesnt have enough cool characters to get me hooked and Im watching The Apprentice UK version now. I prefer the US version, but couldnt really find the non- celeb versions on tudou.

Last time, I used to think that all these shows were totally made- up and the characters were scripted cos I just cant believe how cocky and arrogant people can be. Of course, that was before i went uni and opened my eyes and saw my classmates behaving like this. Which is pretty much why i always fade into the background during discussions.

Going to meet Mon today, havent seen her for ages. Totally looking forward to it!

More of Prague Pictures

Prague Castle

Charles Bridge

One of those random places in the Lesser Town we stumbled upon. Pretty no?

At the John Lennon Wall, where people are free to air their love and hopes for a better world hahah.
One of my fave places in Prague, beats me why too since its actually just a graffiti wall, albeit a very happy one.

Prisc with her Chicken stuff.

This was heavenly. Pork Goulash with Dumplings (which are basically bread like stuff).
If you are in Prague, you definitely have to check out Ceska Kuchyne, just next to Havelsky Market. Food there's cheap (by european standards), very local and good. Its abit like a food court in there.

Duck with sauteed cabbage at Cafe Slavia, one of the places the guidebooks recommended.
It was good, but service could be better, as with most places in Czech.

Bohemia Bagel, in a street just off Charles Bridge in the Lesser Town.
Relatively cheap and good (ask to have it heated up), and the waiter's cute (looks almost scandi) but as usual, not very polite hehe.
Going to watch Angels and Demons (finally) with Boobie later. Looking forward to a movie after dont know how long. 2 years on in London and I havent caught a single one there before.
Looking forward to people coming back, even though they all carry a high risk of H1N1 hahah.

Prague Pictures I (finally)

Some random place within Prague Castle. After some time, all the angmoh buildings look alike. Didnt help that we dont understand Czech too. Hehe.

Our 1001 picture with the landscape of Prague.

Vineyard and View

At Golden Lane in Prague Castle, loved it so much.
They used to be toilets, thousands of years ago. Now they are souvenir shops selling all sorts of quaint and handmade stuff. And the colour of the shops makes me happy.

View from a vineyard in Prague Castle. The view here was gorgeous. There was this Jap TV Station there doing some filming.

The famous St Vitus Cathedral. Which we didnt get a chance to go in cos the queue was so long and we just kept postponing it. And eventually didnt get to go in hehe.

Bohemia Bagel, i searched (and craved) for this for days!

Another view of the famous cathedral.

Some of the cute handmade stuff they had in Prague.
Was tempted to get them but the thought of having to lug them back to london and then singapore deterred me.

One of the many famous statues on Charles Bridge.

Busker on the bridge. They have different people providing diff entertainment everytime we were on it.

Musicians. And they were good.
Wished singapore has such high quality buskers.

View from the Bridge, awesome.

Watching Criminal Minds now, cos May has been raving about it. Kinda reminds me of CSI. And i think i prefer Chuck. Any other suggestions anyone?

Will load up more pictures next time, getting a little bored waiting for blogger.

Chuck!

Finally finished Chuck season 2, and cant seem to find anything else that Im interested in at the moment.
For those who needs some good entertainment: http://watchchuckstreaming.blogspot.com/
I cant wait for Season 3 to come out!

Need more good shows to entertain me now. Watching Guns and Talks now, and im 15mins in and very bored already :(

And anyone interested in doing smthing geeky (i think its cool though):
1. Singapore Science Centre is one of those few countries in the world that is hosting the Da Vinci Exhibition. I wanted to see it when I was in Prague, and Prisc was telling me that I could go to the one in Singapore.
2. And yes, Im uncool enough not to have watched Angels and Demons.

Totally loving every moment of my summer break- like having nothing to do and being bored out of my mind. Its such a luxury not to have much planned.
How to diet when i have Reese's in front of me :(

Friday, June 19, 2009

Im gonna name my first son Bryce.

Bryce on the right.

I am ashamed to have finished the entire Chuck season 1 in 1 day. And im on Episode 10 of Season 2 now. And that on the right, is my new man Bryce. Hot stuff eh?
I havent really stepped out much 'cept to grab takeaways for lunch.
Going to Iggy's for dinner tomorrow, hope its as good as they say it is.
Back in Singapore for a mere 3 days and Ive put on 1kg. Whatever happened to my weight loss plans for home? Sigh.
PS. Anyone up for some good jap/ korean food sometime soon?

How well do you know Peish?

Finally finished Heroes Season 3, cant wait for Season 4 to come out. Im on to Chuck now. And I'll possibly go on to Bones after this when im sick of sitting in front of the computer screen since I have the DVDs for that series.

Other than American dramas, my most recent entertainment is the "How well do you know blah-blah?" on FB. Its hilarious looking at your score on how low you score for the quiz on someone you thought you know knew so well. For one i got 1 out of 10 right for Boobie's quiz, and she's like my first friend in RGS or smthing? Rae was also saying that her twin, who is possibly more than her BFF, couldnt ans so many of the qns from her quiz as well.

Its funny really, cos someone who possibly knows what makes me tick and what to say when Im down in the dumps and bawling my head off, probably doesnt know what flavour of ice cream to offer me. Its interesting how when you get to know someone so well, you tend not to pay attention to the small stuff.
But i dont blame them cos my quiz is hard, its like choosing between what I like/dislike more compared to the others. And i probably exaggerated when I say smthing like this is my fave, cos I probably mean one of. I guess to know all the answers, you probably have to know me from way back. 'Cos its seems like i dont really change my preferences over the years. My absolute favourite/ un-favourite starts from the distant past hehehe.
So yes, i happen to like old friends more.

Im back old friends, please please please text me at my old number or drop me a msg on FB. I wanna meet up for kopi siew dai, gow somewhere, anywhere.

Back in Singapore

Back in Singapore now, catching up on as many Heroes that Ive missed over the past few months as possible. And just lazing around at home reading and junking and watching a bit of random shows on tv now and its just absolutely amazing.

I love the excuse that Ive gotta be home to help my brother out with work. And hence I cant get a job cos I cant rem a thing and Ive gotta read up before telling him anything. Which really isnt all that hard actually.

Last Night in London

Spent the last few days going on shopping sprees, which is amazing. Got stuff for people back at home and managed to nab some deals for myself as well. Retail therapy (though i technically have nothing to mourn about) always rocks. Im glad that life of a medic is crazy, otherwise i do think that my bank account would bleed dry if Ive the time to head down to Oxford Street weekly. 3days on and I dont want to keep track of how much barang I've gotten. But but but, most of them are not for me so it doesnt really count yeah? :0 Only wished that there were more sales going on.
Seriously, oxford street doesnt look like its hit by recession one bit at all.

London's weather is getting abit too hot for my liking. I was out in spags and strolling and still, i was sweating (in london!). But I totally loved the sun, cant wait to be back home when i can go swimming and cease being a milky bar. Not sure if im going to love the sun in Singapore as much though cos its like 20deg sun here and Im starting to feel the heat, wonder what would become of me when its 32 eh?

Currently bunking at Ken's place now, and its gorgeous (for a London flat). Im sleeping in the living room and its twice the size of my room in Campbell House East. Sofa is possibly more comfy than my old bed. Makes me sad that Im living in a dingy little room and having to move every single year. Im def going to call house movers nxt year to save myself all the pain of moving house and carrying all those heavy stuff. Im definitely considering moving out of student halls cos I would be here in London most of the time when clinics start anyway.

Meanwhile, Im gonna watch some House now. Ive been lagging with exams occupying all my time and me being too giam to pay for net in my room.

See everyone back in Singapore soon! Cant wait really (((:
And its gonna be my first time taking the A380 tmr, hopefully the air stewardesses would be pretty and polite. Looking forward definitely!

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Out of Campbell House.

Im supposed to be moving out in 1hr's time, but Prisc isnt awake yet so here I am still in the kitchen watching my ke ai de neighbour clean it up. How nice of him. Which was why i decided I shall be nice and donate all my notes to him.

Finally finished moving house, which was a pain the neck. Had to get 2 cabs cos the 1st cab said that i would overload it with my stuff. Was just wondering if he had to carry like 5 100kg man, would he do it? Cos im sure my stuff wouldnt even add up to half of that. Plus he started charging me that moment i started loading. 2nd cabbie was real nice though, and that totally made my night. I love friendly people, aint that the point of service?

I shall go shower and wake Prisc up now, gotta check out by 10am. Dont want another fine.

Ciao!

Friday, June 12, 2009

I hate moving house.

What's worse than having no movers to move your house, is losing your keys to your old home like 1 day before youve gotta move out. Totally distressing considering that Ive been working so hard not to lose it (and if you know me, you prbly know that Im the most careless rubbish in the world), and Im losing it when I have to move out tmr! Which means a 27quid fine. Plus a earful from my mum, who cant stop taking a dig at me (which was why i was thankful when my phone ran out of battery).

Best thing is that im actually very sure that the keys are somewhere in my room or the kitchen, cos I havent been out at all since last night. Sighs.

Ive finally given up searching for that bunch are looking through every nook and cranny and luggage and bag for the past 8h.

Now all im looking forward to is to dump everything at Ken's and then just sit around and do nothing. Would be good if Ive some DVDs to occupy me with, but since I dont have the luxury of internet fast enough to load any youtube video, Im happy reading and snacking.

As usual, counting down to being home. Im going to be involved in Tripod again this year cos my mum wants me back to tutor my brother for A's. Plus with the swine flu scare, I doubt I would be able to do much travelling.
Anyway if you are interested in spending your hols doing smthing meaningful, do consider volunteering as a facilitator for Tripod. I believe they are still looking for volunteers. According to Mich, she'll be happy to have you involved if you can make it for the camp!

Details as such:

5 days to Home!

I think Im a terrible host to Prisc, cos not only do i cramp her up in this small dingy hole (which i/ucl claim to be a room) full of China Bags and luggages, I make her go to Tower Bridge alone (cos i had to catch the post office before it closes), and make her walk around a lot (2 years on and I still find the transport in london a ripoff).
Plus the only places in London that I know well are food places, smthing which she doesnt enjoy (which is why i found it very surprising when she said she was going to Gordon Ramsay for lunch).
On top of that, she is going to be a coolie and help me move house tmr. Whooops.

Im constantly distracted these few days cos all Im doing is counting down to going home. Which is officially in 5 days time! I just cant wait to tuck into Ba Chor Mee (which they didnt have in singapore day!) and my fave Lao Zhong Zhong Ngoh Hiang. Speaking of food, I have been like eating way too much which is really bad news :( Had Inn Noodles with Anneka and Anita for a late lunch and then met Eunice at Prezzo (complete with a sticky toffee pudding dessert). I really should start exercising soon.
I only wish I could be like Ernie who has DESSERTS and SIT ALL THE TIME and LOSE 3-4KG. Someone slap her for me please.

After 2 years in london, I finally got a taste of how liberal London is. I witnessed 2 guys (yes, both males) frenching outside College Hall the other day. Even though, I was trying to not stare, I think my deliberate looking at the tree across the road was even more obvious. But still, I wonder how people will take this in Singapore? Cos it seemed to me that I was the only one along the street trying real hard not to gawk. Either that or Im the only bad actor around here.

Will try to get Prague pictures up soon!

Is there a possibility that my heart will fail from being too nervous?

Im positively freaking out at the prospect of results coming out in a couple of hours. Actually, im not even sure if its going to be tonight or tmr night, which is annoying. I only wish they would give us this exact time on when it would come out to save us from refreshing the email page like 1000x a min. The idea of having to come back for resits is not only plain depressing but also downright embarrassing. I think no one actually think it possible for a singaporean to not do well (if not thrash the angmohs) when we are overseas. Its like there is this mentality that it is obviously easier to do well when you are not in singapore cos it is less competitive. Im not quite sure if this is actually self- imposed but I do feel it, which is partly the reason why i didnt enjoy Prague as much as I should have i suppose. But i cant help it, cos im a worrywart by nature, and i get freaked out by every little small thing. Times like this, i wish i have dj's chilled, laid- back, take it as it comes attitude.

Im rambling on now cos Im nervous, and as much as i hope to just sit in front of my computer and press ctrl+R every other second, i do realise that it would make the wait more painful. So Im planning to bring Prisc out for a bit, to Polo for Korean (or maybe Assa) and maybe walk about abit before its gets too much and i have to find myself internet to check my mail again.

Back in London now, cant say how happy I am. I know its wrong to say this, but i do think London is more beautiful and enjoyable than Prague (and Brno of course, which is literally an industrial town).
Prisc's turn to the com and my turn to the loo.

Ciao, wish me luck people!

Friday, June 05, 2009

Last night in Bata's birthland.

Today's my last night in Prague, and I find it rather ironic how I have more access to internet here in Prague than in London (yes, I am giam enough not to want to pay for net in my room).

Its amazing how time flies, cos I remember myself whining and complaining to Prisc about how totally overrated Prague is ('cos honestly i think that the pictures that we took makes the city look better than it actually is), I think i might just miss it a tad bit.

5 Days of Prague is quite sufficient, though i have to say that sadly, we missed St Vitus Cathedral (we were just too tired after all the walking to go back to it), and the Jewish part of Prague. I dont quite mind it though, cos this trip was mostly to take my mind off my impending results day (now in less than 5 days, oh man!).

Today was shopping and eating day. Which is always good. Totally my ideal holiday, enjoying life as it is. Czech food isnt the healthiest of fare- with loads of meat and carbo and sauce plus little veg (Yes, i hear calorie counters and diet doom). But it is nice in its own way. I do foresee myself missing it quite a bit when i leave this place, cos i dont think its readily available anywhere else.

Goulash with Dumplings
(Dumplings are actually bread like stuff, very different from the wonton weh have hehe)

I'll post up more pics of my trip when Im actually back in London. Heading down to Brno, which is Czech's 2nd largest city tmr. Hopefully it would be good!

Time for bed, hair is almost dry and Prisc's turn to the computer!

More of Prague.

Waiting for Prisc to come out of the loo, so i thought i shall do a quick update. Actually more for myself to remember what i did during the trip.

Visited Prague Castle yesterday and we literally spent a whole day there. We are going back there today again cos we bought tickets to watch a concert- like an orchestra one. Im looking forward to it cos they are playing Canon in D, which is my all time fave and also Vivaldi's 4 seasons and some other mozart works. Plus it would be in St George's Basilica (i think, im going to double check it tonight), a cathedral which is absolutely gorgeous inside. We are planning to go back to St Vitus Cathedral today, which is like the highlight of Prague Castle. It looks absolutely amazing from the outside, reminding me of Sagrada familia. The interior is apparently even more breathtaking. Im totally looking forward to it.

We had dinner at Cafe Louvre, which has a long rich history. People like Einstein used to work there. The food was good and the ambience great. We might just be heading back there today for lunch. Looking forward to it!

Alright, shall take my leave now. Its 12.30pm and we havent started the day!

Wednesday, June 03, 2009

And hopefully Prague will start looking prettier.

I just do the silliest things sometimes, like accidentally clicking ok to "reformat SD card?" when fiddling with my cam. Meaning that i basically lost all my photos from the 1st 2 days in Prague. Which is really a pity.

I dont quite mind losing 1st day's photo of the old town square and astro clock, cos i was just too tired that day to really enjoy Prague (in fact, i was disliking it and on the verge of hating it.) so it wasnt really worth remembering it in Print or Picture.

But Day 2 was pretty fun. I really enjoyed the Charles's Bridge (even though it was under construction and hence the grandeur was diminished significantly), and I absolutely LOOOVEEEDD the John Lennon wall even though it was just this wall for hippies to leave their graffitti (maybe im a hippie at heart). Stopped by this cafe that had gorgeous looking cakes, that were going for half price. But only when we went in, the owner said we had to order an exorbitant drink to get it at half price. Which is sooo unethical. It totally didnt help that his attitude was so darn bad (Im getting the anal kelvina-mama syndrome) and he's not cute at all plus the cake only looked pretty. Got me ranting at him after we left for a bit.

Petrin hill was awesome too, there were pretty flower beds which me and Prisc took like 1001 pictures in there (now all gone). Moreover, I quite enjoyed the walk through the meandering paths as well (reminds me of Bukit Timah Hill ... kinda.) We stopped by this touristy restaurant midway, which was surprisingly awesome. I had Bohemian Onion Soup with Cheese Toast, that was realllllyyyyy good. Only wished it was creamy, but i guess you cant have creamy onion soup can you? (Totally craving the seafood soup i had in Norway now). Prisc had this duck dish that looked really tempting too. Price was decent. Hers being about 10quid and mine was 50koruna, meaning about 2quid?

I guess being long at a place just grows into you. As least for me, i like things familiar. Like how im starting to really love London. I actually think London is gorgeous.

Hopefully i will start loving Prague too. Afterall, its just wrong to say smthing along the lines of Prague being not pretty (but all european buildings do look the same after some time no?) or not enjoyable.

Monday, June 01, 2009

In Prague!

Its my first day in Prague and I dont know if its cos Im so tired from the lack of sleep (had to go Stansted real early to catch a 6am flight) or for some other unknown reason, I actually find it relatively boring here.

Visited the old town square and the astrological clock (or some sorts) which was actually quite pretty but somehow didnt enjoy it as much as I would expect myself to. My feet's aching real badly now from walking on all the cobbled ground (Yes they look cool and pretty and ancient but they are such a pain to walk on. thankfully i have my track shoes with me.)

Maybe tmr would be better. Hopefully so, considering that Im going to be here for another 5days and 3 more days in Brno which is apparently more boring that Prague. Afterall, tmr we are planning to see Charles Bridge proper (barely managed a glimpse today from the old town site), and also the famous Prague Castle. Im crossing my fingers that those sights will change my opinion of this city, 'cos i cant believe Im complaing about a place that everyone has been raving about.

And i do have to agree with Brian, Czech is indeed the thailand of Europe.
(And betcha didnt know that Bata's from Czech wahaha. They have a 4 storey Bata here.)

Enjoying Summer!

Pardon the sporadic updates, just that there isnt very much exciting stuff going on in my life cept for shopping eating and enjoying summer.

Checked out DimT with Rae ytd. Without the 2for1 voucher, its pretty ex (about 8quid for a Pad Thai), but it was nice. Waiting time was bad, we sat about for like more than 30mins for Pad Thai and Tom Yum (which doesnt look too hard to dish out). Portion's not huge but enough to fill me up. The ambience was great though, they opened their slider screen doors so that the sun from outside could stream in and there's fresh air, which was awesome. I absolutely love summer.

Headed down to Westfield (sadly, its my first time) and it was beautiful! I love the way its so spacious and clean and green. And they have awesome toilets, which speaks volumes about the place. It reminds me of vivo, just bigger with more shops. Though few had discounts, which was a pity. Which is why I think I prefer Oxford Street despite the mess and crowd cos I just love the thrill of nabbing a good find ;)

Going down to Oxford (the university town, not the shopping street in London) later with Rae, to visit Babe and Josie and Charm and Esther. Im excited! The weather's gorgeous (and hopefully will stay so), and Im hoping to maybe go punting or sit in the sun and read a good book with Moo Moo's Milkshake! C'est la vie ((:

Finally finished planning all the transport stuff for Czech, quite looking forward to it cos from some pictures it does look beautiful. Im hoping it would be a chillaxing fun trip ...
Just before i come back for results day. Gulp.

Ciaooo!

My attempts to keep myself from freaking out about Results Day.

This blog is supposed to be revived after my exams, but because Im still tapping UCL's roamnet from my room (meaning that i only get a teeny bit of duper slow net once in a little while) and that im so caught up with retail and good food therapy, Ive been finding it pretty hard to sit myself down to type anything.

But yes, Ive been combing oxford street and getting myself qte some good buys and picking up presents for people whose bday fell during the horror exam period. Quite proud of the couple of jeans and sweaters that i managed to get from Uniqlo (ok make it loads, considering i went mad with the colours they have and got qte a few for friends as well, just only 'cos i wanted all the colours but could not justify getting, it for myself), and shoes from Topshop, more shoes from Primark (yes they actually have some pretty nice shoes this season!), loads of stuff for my fam, a dress and top for Clinics (if i pass year 2 that is) from Dorothy Perkins and loads of random small stuff from here and there. And im so going to nab that summer bag from Gap (((:
Havent had such awesome retail therapy since ... see its so long tt i cant remember!

Ohoh and ernieee, if you see this please tell me if you are up for daring colours. I was so tempted to get you smthing more fun :P But i kinda realised that you arent dj eh?

And for those people are looking for good food at good prices ...
1. Zizzi's like one of the most awesome place ever! The staff at the branch in charlotte street are super friendly and the ambience is great and the food is really satisfying!
2. Garfunkel's coffee is wayy better than starbuck's or nero, and a large cup (eating it) is not much more than starbucks. And its pretty shiok sitting out there in the sun and watching the world go by.
3. Four Seasons at Bayswater is still better than the one at Chinatown, so if you can help it, make the trip down.
4. Inn Noodle is surprisingly good.
5. M&S's white choc cookie is addictive. Dont start on it unless you are prepared to finish like 3 at a go.
6. London's Pizza Hut (the one are Marble Arch at least) tastes 3x better than Singapore's. And def beat Pizza Express hands down (sorry!).

Seeing Lucy to coach her with her Chinese orals tmr, and meeting Rae for Inn Noodles again.
Off to Prague with Prisc in a couple of days and rushing to make some last minute bookings, and packing my room and moving house meanwhile.
Its nice to be busy about non- academic stuff really :)

Friday, May 22, 2009

Exams Out!

Its over, its finally overrrr! (((:
The worst week of my 21yrs of life is over!

And now people, cross your fingers for me that I dont have to go through it again. Im looking forward to entering CLINICSSS.

Its time for partyyyy.

A whole new light.

I know Im supposed to be working, but this thing caught my eye as I was clearing emails:

Dr Geraldine Atkinson who graduated from UCL Med School died of a cyst forming in her brain. Her family is now raising money for Kith and Kids, a charity she supported and selling her old books.

It just reminds me of how fragile life is.
I can just imagine how devastating it must be for her family. Maybe its cos Im doing what Im doing and seeing everyday how many ways in which life could be taken; or in wake of my granddad's death, the first death of a person i knew personally, Ive come to be terribly afraid of death.

I totally understand when my epidemiology lecturer said that teenagers think that they are immortal, 'cos i used to be as such. But i see myself growing old (sadly) and sometimes I have freak random thoughts that someone in my family is going to cancer or meet some accident. Morbid eh? And when i take plane rides, the thoughts that cross my mind are of those that the plane can potentially crash or get hijacked.

While its time to return to working, now Im counting my blessings that Im actually given the shot at becoming a doctor. Makes me so much less miserable as I memorise drug names ((:

Good luck to those who are preparing for exams too!

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Study break.

Will be MIA till June.
Give me all your blessings meanwhile people. Need it loads.

Till then!

Greedinesss.

Twitter update: The food's free (i think). And im helping myself liberally to it!

Transiting in Dubai.

Im sitting in Dubai's Emirates Business Lounge (but no, im not lucky enough to take the comfy class, im just here cos Ive flown enough for them to decide that i deserve slightly better treatment), and peering at the food counter not too far from me and wondering its free food like what the newsletter they sent me said. Im already drooooling at the fresh fruits the chap opposite me is having.

But im too humji to ask the waiter if it so, so im just sitting here enjoying the free net and slightly more comfy chairs. Its nothing fantastic really, but its just that after walking more then 100gates from my departure gate, Im determined to at least sit here for abit longer.
While im impressed that Dubai's airport is huge (Im in terminal 3 and there are like 260 gates, most of them in use. It takes about 5mins for the shuttle bus to fetch me from the plane to the airport itself, cos its too crowded for all planes to land nxt to the airport and have those connectors that link you straight to the airport.), I dont like cos it freaks me out when i have to rush for connecting flights and the gate is super far away, with constant announcements that my flight is closing and please proceed to gate XXX for immediate boarding.
But of course, i like the fact that it is new and quite clean, and nothing as chaotic as Heathrow. So im not complaining much, cos it would definitely be a chore to be transferring there.

Im completely shattered now that easter's over and im so behind for revision. I think it is like on a constant repeat on all my entries now. (And will be so as long as its an entry before the exam itself, after which it would possibly be- jialat, crap, damn, pangsaiiii.) I realised that one bad thing abt going home is that you spend a large amt of time packing to get home and then trying to adapt back to being home and then there is that pre- departure flurry too after that with all the last min packing and getting random stuff that we'll miss (pocky!) and what not, and then of course the very long plane ride that literally takes more than half the day (esp for me with a long transfer).

Now what im dreading most is dragging the darn luggages back to my room. The thought of having to lug it up the stairs at the tube stn and up to my 2nd storey room is already making me want to throw up. Really, for an advanced place, im appalled that London tubes dont have lifts in all stations.

Oh and its back to, laundry and dishes days :(
Sobs.

Dreading the flight back :(

I seem to have this trouble of getting my flight dates right. It has (fortunately) just occurred to me that im going to be heading back to Bleak Land tmr. And all this while I was still thinking I have 2 more days in Singapore.
The last time this happened, I organised a loser outing on the day when I was going to be flying back from London, forgetting that there was a time difference between singapore and london, and hence i would be reaching 1 day later. So being a Loser outing, it never came to as usual. But im glad i managed to eventually meet up with them anyway :) Everyone looks well!

And time passes insanely quickly when Im home, I cant believe that Easter's gone :( I have a feeling im going to miss all my artery- clogging suppers and 35degrees days and nice huge comfy room and maria (or is it susi? ok im bad at names. but you get the idea, i mean domestic help).
I havent done my pharmco and epidemiology assignment at all (if anyone is willing to lend a helping hand, yours truly will be indebted and extremely grateful). I'll prbly try to work on it abit at the airport and on the plane. And heading to Bleak Land also means that its finally going to dawn upon me that Im in deep shit for not working hard enough during the hols :(

But this certainly makes its look alot better:

Im heading back for Singapore Day in time, which I realised is actually pretty silly. But its always hard to turn down freeeeee fooooood! Would of course be better if Stef Sun and JJ Lin was there. Throw in a Gong Li too, she's afterall Singaporean! Oh flying in Felicia Chin would certainly make the days of us stressed out, depressed students.
This brings me to the point of why is there no cute male artistes in Singapore eh?
Waitttt, is Utt Singaporean? Does he have a PR? Would be good if he did, pack him in too!

Whines and Dines.

Im bored of mugging and yet freaking out cos i know i possibly wont be able to finish all the stuff.
How come so contradictory ah?
Its so stupid cos i sit there going "Shit shit i cant finish this and that, oh and i still have XXX and YYY. I better not forget to cram ZZZ too." and yet, "Sian, i dont want to do anymore of this anymore. Im going to tear the bloody book up."

Sigh, its times like this i wish i wasnt a medic.
But to look on the brighter side, as least im not a lawyer, having no essays does make it look alot less bleak (:

And i hate exam period too, cos im sucha COMFORT EATERRRRRR. Help.

What scares me.

It seems like nowadays everyone is getting all sorts of cancer:
1. Singapore's DBS CEO Richard Stanley has died of an infection from his leukemia this morning.
It was really quite a shocker considering that I read only on Sat that his condition took a turn for the worse, and within a day, he has left.
2. Steve Jobs of Apple has Pancretic Cancer. Old news but I have to admit i have only come to know of it recently.
3. Ah Sang (taiwanese singer who sang ye zi) died of Breast Cancer not too long ago.

It scares me loads really, especially when i have seen my own granddad lose his battle to it.
But what scares me more now is the impending June Exams, of which I am so not prepared for :(
Im crossing my fingers that Im going to start finding my momentum soon, and that Im going to get scared enough to start working harder. As of now, 还没火烧屁股,不知什么是害怕。I hate exams! :(((((((

And finally, this is what has been scaring me too:

That's Daniel Wu in Shinjuuku Incident.

Reminds me of Heath Ledger's Joker, but scares me more really :( Esp the scene where his hand got chopped off (Im wondering how I can be a surgeon like this).

But the movie was pretty good, but too violent in my opinion, and has an impressive cast. If you dont get affected by gore, its probably one of the better movies out now.

The older the better.

Recently, i borrowed my brother's ipod which he has abandoned, meaning that he hasnt updated it for possibly longer than me (and i havent in at least 1.5yrs). And im reminded of all the good old songs which I think beat the recent trashy ones hands down.

The version on her album is def better than this one on youtube.

Anyone knows where Stef Sun is or whats she's up too nowadays?

Exam Rant.

This pretty much serves me right for bragging that i'll be able to mug better at home.

Apparently not, considering i havent completed half of what i set out to do, and the damn pharm drug names just keeps spilling out. Im dead bored of anat, but i dont know it well enough. And sorry, but im one of those rare singaporean medics who dont like neuro.

Plus, im also partly distracted by my unconfirmed holiday plans. Im kinda worried that the flight prices will continue going up, but dj aint replying me. Part of me doesnt want to go anymore, and yet i dont want to be rotting in london for 2 weeks, while going mad waiting for results to come out. And this also means that the 2nd leg of the trip with Prisc is put on hold now.

New movies are coming out and I want to watch them (thinking of it, i havent watched a movie in more than a year). I want to go swimming and get back my tan. (But 清明节 is here and it keeps raining.) Sighs.

Most of all, I wish there were no exams. (Doesnt everyone?) I hate the way everytime i come back, there is going to be a paper the moment i return. Defeats the point of having a holiday right (or maybe dont call it a holiday anymore!)?

Okay, i shall stop being postmenopausal and get out of this rut.

Finallyyyyy,
And thanks to ERNIE-KU FOR THE SCARF! (((((:
